STX:LDN Partners with Crypto Mondays London for Code is Law v Code & Law Conference
World’s first Developer/Lawyer Live Debate!
We’re kicking off the summer season with a world-first event, due to take place in Kensington, London on June 29th 2023.
The ‘Code is Law v Code & Law Conference’ takes place in partnership with FTRE.WORLD and Crypto Mondays London, marking the first time that this live debate will take place between developers and lawyers in the blockchain and crypto space.
The event, however, is not about two sides going head-to-head but rather has a focus on professionals within the space coming together to create an immersive and educational conversation around Code and Law.
The event, was inspired by the popular phrase used by Bitcoiners and Crypto enthusiasts alike, but did you know its origins go back as far as the year 1999?
In a book authored by Professor Lawrence Lessig, titled ‘Code And Other Laws of Cyberspace’ the term is used to define a view of the rise of a “new society” in what has been known since the 1990s as cyberspace. This new society believed in building society via a bottom-up approach without “governments, kings, presidents and voting”, however, this society would still have some form of consensus and derive this consensus from “running code”. Does any of this sound familiar?
The book is a must-read, especially in the current mix of regulatory measures being taken by governments, the rise of fintech over recent years, Bitcoin, the use of smart contracts, NFTs and the constant barrage of ‘metaverse everything’ time that we are in now within the blockchain and crypto industry. Anyways, we digress…
The Event
The Code is Law V Code & Law Conference is an immersive one-day event dedicated to the discussion of the current regulatory landscape, all of the above and how professionals can come together with the general public to assert discussion around regulation to governments in an open and transparent way.
Date: June 29th, 2023
Time: The event opens at 1 pm and concludes the series of talks at 19:30 pm, followed by a DJ-led after-party networking and drinks.
Place: Queens Gate House, 65-67 Queen’s Gate, South Kensington, London SW7 5JS
Each ticket type includes drinks and lunchtime snacks for attendees, with STX:LDN and Crypto Mondays London members receiving a 20% discount across all bookings.
Speakers
Throughout the event, attendees will hear from some of the UK’s most knowledgeable founders, developers, lawyers, industry representative groups and community leaders in the UK blockchain and crypto space.
With up to 20+ speakers in total, 3 fireside debates and a ‘Getting through to Parliament’ panel featuring industry representative groups, the event is sure to be insightful, informative and better yet impactful!
Community Voices must be heard…
The event and collaboration will also mark the formation of a new ‘Code is Law’ open community forum where lawyers, developers, founders, creators, regulators, policymakers and the public can come together to share views, discuss regulatory announcements and have a transparent discourse around shaping the future. Furthering the efforts to make this happen each speaker for the event will become an ongoing community partner and able to submit the earliest points for discussion in the community beta.
We hope the collaboration of multiple UK-based Bitcoin, Crypto, Blockchain professionals, communities and the general public in this fashion can get even the smallest of voices heard in the future shaping of the industry.
